Daytona 2000 - Corvair Speedweek
Fast Time of the Day... Again! The Don Yenko Award is given to the contestant with the fastest time in the autocross event. Warren LeVeque of LeVair Performance Products, who won the award in 1987, 1991, '92 and '94, became a 5-time winner at Daytona, with a Fast Time of the Day (FTD) of 55 seconds on the twists and turns of the 1.1 mile infield track. |
Warren's YS-015, which is featured in the Yenko section of this website (click here), has undergone some changes. It now weighs 1870 pounds, and has all fiberglass panels except the top and doors. He has the fiberglass doors, but SCCA rules won't allow them. Warren wants to cut another 20 pounds from the car. In the photo below, we see the fenders and quarter-panels are expanded 2 inches on each side, IMSA style. This allows additional lowering over the 13 x 10" wheels. |
|
Warren worked hard on behalf of all the autocross participants at Daytona 2000 by negotiating with Daytona International Speedway track management for the use of the infield track, and by working closely with track officials during the autocross event to ensure all drivers observed the rules and had a safe day. |
