Daytona 2000 - Corvair Speedweek

This scaled down fiberglass Monza SS go-cart immitates the full scale Monza SS design study featured in the GT/SS section of this website, and is another example of the huge variety of Corvair variations; cars, trucks, motor homes, boats, air-boats, airplanes and helicopters, prototypes, Yenkos, Fitch Spints, Devins, Crown Corv-8s and Kelmarks, dune buggies and sand rails - everything but Corvair powered spacecraft.

1963 Corvair Monza Spyder convertible

This 1963 Spyder convertible was spotted at trackside during the autocross and appeared to be pure stock except for its Cragar wheels.

1964 Monza wagon "that never was"

The Wagon that Never Was...

"Smitty" Smith ignored the fact that the Monza station wagon was discontinued after the 1962 model year and made up his own '64, along with a matching trailer which he left behind for the autocross. Here we see him at the starting gate, with wheel covers removed and whip antenna secured for the quick trip around the track. Smitty and his wife, Helen, are residents of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and are regulars at CORSA events.
