2001: A Corvair Odyssey

There were approximately 20 Corvair trucks in the People's Choice Car Display. Let's have a look at the 1964 Greenbrier owned by Dan Brizendine of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Corvair parts interchangeability makes it possible to easily improve one model by borrowing parts from another. Dan's Greenbrier was treated to a number of upgrades. The standard instrument cluster had only a speedometer and gas gauge. To provide better engine monitoring, it was replaced by a Monza Spyder gauge set; tachometer, 120 mph speedometer, gas gauge, voltmeter and cylinder head temperature gauge. Dan added a Powerglide shift pattern index to the cluster, and replaced the stock steering wheel with a Corvette unit.

Above, glossy paint, chrome plated bumpers and Cragar wheels make a handsome combination. The Greenbrier rides on BFGoodrich Radial Long Trail T/A tires.

140 hp engine tranplant

A 4-single barrel carburetor 140 hp engine is installed, fitted with modern ignition electronics and cruise control. The result is better-than-original power and drivability.
