Rick Norris Crown Corv-8

Now that we've seen the cooling system, suspension, brakes and fuel supply system, let's take a close look at the engine and its installation amidships. The original Crown headers were painted for this picture, and later, Jet Hot coated, inside and out.

Early power train mockup

Above, a mock-up of the entire power train and exhaust system shows the Flowmaster mufflers selected for the project, with temporary tail pipes attached.

At right, the 350 cu. in., 300 horsepower Chevy crate motor selected for the project. It was cheaper than rebuilding the original 327, and it has all new parts and a warrantee. He bought it from a local Chevy dealer and it was delivered to his door!

Judging from my own past experience with a similar purchase of a 350/370 horsepower GM built short block ('70 Corvette), I'd say Rick's made an excellent decision. This engine should be very strong and reliable.

A close up shot of the thermostat housing shows the addition of an air bleed to help purge air when filling the cooling system.

Also shown is the AN fitting for the air bleed line from the water pump. We'll we'll take a look at that and explain its purpose on the next page.

This water neck is a custom piece from Street and Performance. It has a 10 degree angle on the outlet and is adjustable through 360 degrees of rotation.
