Roy Nakamura's fine '69 Monza
There were only 2,717 Monza sport coupes built in the 1969 model year, the last year of production for the Corvair. Compare that with the 88,954 built in the U.S. for the 1965 model year, the first year of late model production, and we can conclude this is a rare car. |
Monza coupe production peaked in the early model years, with 151,738 produced in 1962. Of course, in '62, there were only three Chevrolets; the full size Chevy, the Corvair and the Corvette. This had changed dramatically by 1969, with Chevrolet also offering the Chevy Nova, the Chevelle and the Camaro. Sales were also affected by the fact that, by '69, the Corvair late model was in its 5th year without a styling change. |

Immediately after purchasing his '69, Roy replaced the single exhaust system with a dual set-up, using original hardware from the Corvair Doctor in Hawthorne, CA. The good doctor also found Roy an NOS front spoiler, which was missing. |
|
For safety reasons, Roy replaced all the brake lines and wheel cylinders. He also lowered the front of the car 1" by cutting the front coils. |
