D.A.C.C. Corvair Homecoming
Who is this guy with the camera that keeps asking for lids to be closed? I saw an opportunity for a straight-on side view of a late model convertible and had to find the owner. There was a woman nearby, sitting in the shade of a tree, reading a book. "Excuse me," I said, "Are you with the club? Do you know where I can find the owner of the blue convertible?" "You've found her," she said. I'd found Sue Lackey, and she looked really comfortable with her reading, so I decided I wouldn't ask her to get up and lower the lids. "Would you mind if I closed the trunk and engine lids for a picture?" I asked. |
"Go ahead," came the quick reply. Another rush of memories hit me as I gently dropped the engine lid, just like I used to do with the '65 Corsa after showing off the 4 carb setup. The lid latched solidly and I got on with my photography. |
"Just put it on the ground," Sue called out as she saw me searching for a place to put the registration card I'd just removed from the windshield to clean up the shot a little more. |
Sue & Dick Lackey's late model Monza convertible
I'm not sure if Sue's car was a '66 or a '67. One thing I'm certain of; this isn't a stock color, as nothing close was offered in either year. I remember seeing a similar color, Seamist Turquoise, on 1961 Corvairs. In any event, it was a great looking car. |
This 1965 Monza sport coupe is in a factory original color; Crocus Yellow. The black pinstripe along the beltline is an add-on for the Monza, but was standard on the Corsa model that year. |
