Corvairs at Blackhawk 2001
The driver at right chose to run practice laps with the side windows open in an attempt to beat the heat, and maybe to enjoy the exhaust note at near 5,000 RPM in high gear. The Blackhawk straights allow for speeds approaching 100 MPH (160.9 KPH), which explains the blur of the alloy wheels and the shrubs in the background. |
Bob Dunahugh charges through a turn in Yenko Stinger YS#108. Note the open air intake flaps on the fiberglass rear deck lid. The Yenko's heavy duty suspension keeps body roll to a minimum and the car firmly under control, even in the tightest turns. |
Robert Landers exits Turn 7 at speed in his 1965 Fitch Sprint. The car was restored as an exact replica of the Sprint featured on the cover of the September, 1965, edition of Car and Driver as seen in the Fitch section of this site. Absent from this shot are the Hands wheels Rob uses on the street. |
