Ken Arnold's '63 Rampside |
Seeking reliable and ample power for his Rampside, Ken chose a 1982 Chevy, 305 cubic inch, 2-bolt main bearing block with stock crank using .010 undersized bearings, standard connecting rods and cast pistons. |
A heavy duty oil pump is used, and because fuel is delivered by an electric pump located at the tank, the mechanical fuel pump boss was closed with a blocking plate. A short style water pump provides 3 inches of clearance between engine and radiator. Induction is through a 600 c.f.m. Holley 4-barrel carburetor mounted on an Edelbrock intake manifold. The exhaust manifolds are from a 1988 305 equipped truck. Ken had them ceramic coated. |
Ignition is provided by a point triggered MSD 7AL system with a Blaster coil. The 7AL box is hidden from view, and located on the passenger side, in an enclosed space just ahead of the rear wheel well. 8mm spark plug wires are neatly arranged to keep them away from the intense heat of the exhaust manifolds. The low profile B&M air filter is equipped with K&N elements. |
In this view, we see the rear bed floor in place. There are two panels between the engine and the tail gate. A small diameter "peanut" spare tire is housed under the forward panel. Jack storage is provided in the area behind the passenger side rear wheel well, where the stock Corvair muffler was once located. The 2 1/2 inch ceramic coated exhaust system uses dual Thrush turbo mufflers, one of which can be seen in the lower right of the darkened cavity. |
