Daytona 2000 - Corvair Speedweek
This early model custom had me guessing. With no grill bar and no Corvair badges (We don't need no stinking badges!), I wasn't sure of its vintage. The 1964 rocker panel trim and '64 interior gave me a clue, but it was the Virtual Vairs e-mail discussion group that confirmed it. The Sprint is not only '64, it's a one-owner! Tom Seversin of Madison, Wisconsin, purchased it new. The convertible is recognized as a strong autocross performer and Tom is regarded as a great driver. The car has been featured in the CORSA Communique and is a regular at CORSA conventions, where its excellent condition and unique features always attract attention. Note its Cal Custom nerf bars with license plate surround, its Hands wheels and Fitch Sprint striping. |
The Cal Custom bumper treatment is continued on the rear of the car and a set of bullet taillights adds a further custom touch. The Sprint won the Edward N. Cole Memorial Award at the 1979 convention. |
