Daytona 2000 - Corvair Speedweek
SCCA racer Seth Emerson and I had exchanged some e-mail as members of Virtual Vairs, and the CORSA convention gave us the opportunity to meet. We met on the shuttle bus on the way back to the hotel, and had a chance to talk about his former car, the open wheel Lola below, now owned by Joseph Crist of South Carolina. I asked Seth if Joseph had made any changes to the race car after buying it and he said the only difference he had noted was that the seat had been repositioned. |
Joseph's Corvair-powered Lola looked terrific in the midday sun! This is the same car that appears in the Extra! section of this site, complete with the specifications Seth provided when he owned it. If you haven't previously seen the feature and would like to check it out, click here, and then use your browser's BACK button to return to this page. The car is built on a 94" wheelbase, and uses a 1973 Lola T320 SuperVee chassis. It weighs only 920 pounds (less fuel and driver) and is powered by a highly modified 1966 140 Corvair engine. |

Florida's Eddie Meadows is known as a very smooth and fast competitor. His Stinger, formerly campaigned out of Havre de Grace, Maryland, raced National level SCCA and went to the Run-Offs at least once. The car ran competitively using drum brakes, and either Weber carburetion or four Rochesters. |
