2001: A Corvair Odyssey

At right, we see the modified interior of a 1962 Monza owned by Gregory Englin of Aurora, Illinois. Greg replaced the standard Monza dash which had only a speedometer and fuel gauge, and replaced it with the more complete instrumentation provided by a Spyder dash panel. Further personalization included installing a matching brushed chrome Spyder glove box door and updating the radio.

1964 Monza Spyder in Daytona Blue

Above, the turbo-charged 1964 Corvair Monza Spyder, which, when road tested by Car and Driver magazine was described as an "absolute honey." The '64 is prized by collectors because it was the most highly developed and best handling of the early models. Improvements in '64 included a standard front sway bar, the addition of a stabilizing transverse-mounted leaf spring to the rear suspension, a larger 12-plate oil cooler and an improved clutch and pressure plate design.
