2001: A Corvair Odyssey
Competing in the Senior Division, we found a really interesting 1968 Monza sport coupe owned by Dennis Arendt of Schaumburg, Illinois. He purchased the car in 1999 after casting the winning bid on the Ebay auction web site. He was attracted to the Monza by its array of unique features, such as its 1965 turbo drive train, custom interior, and sunroof. This particular car was the subject of an article in the CORSA Tech Guide titled SU Carbs and Turbo Engines, written by Peter Jacobs, who's magic created the unique '68. |
Breathing through an SU carburetor and capable of 15 to 18 lbs. of turbo boost, the '68 has a water/alcohol injection setup to prevent detonation. The SU equipped Monza is fast. Dan took 2nd Place is IS4 racing at Blackhawk Raceway, and ran two timed laps in the ultra-respectable 1:39+ range. |
