2001: A Corvair Odyssey
Rich Thompson was thrilled when his 1964 Corvair Monza Spyder qualified for competition in CORSA's Factory Stock Restored class. This is what he'd been shooting for. Then, you can imagine the thrill he got when the Spyder won a Gold Award in Senior Division with the highest score in its class, 98.12 points out of a possible 99.5 (there was a .5 point deduction for transporting the car to the show on an open trailer). |
On top of the Gold Award, Rich's Spyder received the CORSA Preservation Award for Best Factory Stock Restored Vehicle and the William L. Mitchell Award for Best In Show! It's easy to see why Rich and his car did so well. Have a look at the turbo-charged engine; factory original down to the battery and generator. |
The trunk's interior is also equipped as it was from the factory with a single reservoir brake master cylinder and a vintage bottle of windshield washer fluid stowed on a bracket against the inner fender. The photograph is overexposed, and does not accurately depict the trunk interior color. The quality of Rich's restoration is outstanding. Imagine the number of hours he invested in researching, chasing parts, rebuilding and detailing! |
