Corvair emblem Corsa

Corvair Memorabilia and Collectibles

You may wonder what a warning sticker has to do with memorabilia. It has something to do with jogging memories. Just ask any Corvair owner, and you should hear at least one good story about a broken or "tossed" fan belt. The dreaded "TEMP PRESS" and "GEN FAN" indicators have saved many a Corvair engine from destruction! Also note the factory recommended tire pressure differentials so important to good handling were prominently displayed on the sticker.

Early model Corvair warning sticker

In the early 60s, your request for information on the Sprint package offered by John Fitch & Co. of Lime Rock, Lakeville, Connecticut, might have put an envelope like this one in your mailbox. John Fitch offered many affordable modifications, first for the early model, and then the late model. John's modifications were very popular. Many fine examples of his work still exist and can frequently be seen at Corvair meets. More information on John and his cars is available in the Fitch section of this site.

Fitch envelope

Lending credence to the fact that the John Fitch Sprint package was a hot commodity is this 1966 1/25 scale model kit from AMT. It would be terrific if this kit were reissued and offered as a '60s classic.

Personally, I'd like to see one in a larger scale. Having had experience with the 1/25 scale versions, I found the stock 13" wheels and the relatively small size of the engine made the car a good candidate for larger scale. Hey, go for broke!
