Daytona 2000 - Corvair Speedweek
Bill Pierson's 1962 Fitch Sprint I first learned of Bill Pierson's remarkable 1962 Fitch Sprint from my Corvair buddy, Chuck Armer, of Chamblee, Georgia, who described it as "one of the very first Fitch Sprints sold." He raved about the wealth of documentation Bill has on the car, including letters from its builder, John Fitch, to the original owner, Edward Wellington. |
Then in March, 2000, I was pleased to see an extensive article on the car appear in the CORSA Communique, chronicling the evolution of the Sprint, and including many pictures of the car's special features like the full width stone guard and the Lucas Flamethower high speed driving light (mounted on the driver's side only), as seen in the picture at right. Other views showed the car's dash treatment and the 145 hp, 4-carburetor engine with dual tuned exhaust. It made for interesting reading. |

While Bill owns a trio of Corvairs including a late model convertible, he considers himself an "early model person." His interest in Fitch Sprints has been a long term affair, starting shortly after the purchase of his first Corvair, in 1974. |
