2001: A Corvair Odyssey
Is this man ready to go racing? Don't let the broad grin and the joking around fool you. This is one of the most serious, dedicated autocross racers in the hobby. Chuck Armer of Corvair Atlanta put his Darth Vair on a trailer, hitched it to the back of his Cadillac, and drove from Atlanta to Blackhawk Farms Raceway. After competing, he went on to St. Charles for 2001: A Corvair Odyssey. He's got a helmet, a racing harness and racing tires (which he prefers to change well after dark—ask him about it sometime). If there's a race to go to, Chuckster will be there! |

With 32 cars running in IS-3, there was a lot of competition. Chuck's driving improved with each lap and he tripped the timers at 39.55, 38.31 and 38.27. Then, at the banquet, he earned another Senior Division Concours d'Elegance Gold award, scoring 94.98 points in the Modified Late class! |
Sprinting to the finish At right, with a cluster of modified Corvairs in the background, Bill Pierson negotiates a tight 90° turn in his '62 Fitch Sprint . Competing in Improved Stock 3, Bill ran three consecutive better laps at 42.01, 41.57 and 40.47 seconds. |
