2001: A Corvair Odyssey
|
Quote: "It's real grand touring on a shoestring, thanks to the old pro, John Fitch" - Car and Driver, September, 1965 |
Robert Landers of Edwardsville, Illinois, treated convention goers to a first hand look at his restored 1965 Fitch Sprint. Robert restored the car to closely resemble the one that graced the cover of Car and Driver in September, 1965. That cover and associated article appear in the Fitch section of this site and can be brought up in a new browser window by clicking here. |
Speaking from the perspective of a person who was there in the Sixties, the Fitch Sprint was omnipresent in the mind of the Corvair enthusiast. Conceived by a highly respected international racer, it offered a number of performance, comfort, handling and appearance enhancements that could be purchased individually or as a package, at reasonable prices. |
Throughout the mid-Sixties, ads and articles in major automotive publications promoted the availability of the Sprint package. John Fitch was credible; his refinements worked, and the word got out. |
The appearance of this car at the Chicago convention was for me, a personal highlight. It earned a Bronze award in the Specialty, Late class of the Concours d'Elegance. |
