Tyler Sapp's Nebraska '66 Monza
Tyler is thinking about preparing the car for competition in the Original class, but has to make some decisions first. One is whether or not to return to a stock exhaust system. It was replaced with glasspacks, which would be a handicap in Original Class. He also thinks the glasspacks might be too loud, because his wife says she can "hear the car a block away." "But hey," he adds, "the sound of that flat-six through glasspacks is one of a kind, especially when you accelerate and the secondary carbs kick in and you flash to the red-line!" |
The 14 x 6" Chevy rally wheels mount Michelin P215-14 tires, replacing stock 13" wheels and tires and retaining an all-Chevy appearance. The profile of the Corvair, in my opinion, very well balanced. |
A final look at Tyler's ride reveals a handsome machine, complete with the Indiana State Vehicle Inspection sticker dated 1978, still on the windshield. More than two decades later it survives because it conjures images of the last time the original owner cruised it through the streets of Indianapolis. Tyler can justifiably be proud of his thoroughly restored Monza. He's done an excellent job! "I hope other Corvair owners have a much fun with their cars as I do," he says, and that makes me smile. There's that word again—the one so many associate with the Corvair—fun! |
