Site Visitors' Survey Results
Conclusion: Thanks to all the survey respondents who participated in Corvair Corsa's 4th site survey. The time you spent completing the questionnaire is appreciated. Your feedback will result in improvements all will hopefully enjoy. As in past surveys, the site's photographs appear to be a strong point, and as in the past, some people noted the high resolution images are slow loading. Unfortunately, there is a trade off between image quality and load time. Images are cropped to eliminate unnecessary backgrounds to speed loading, but I'm reluctant to reduce color depth or degrade picture quality with excessive compression. If you are a heavy user of the Internet, consider investing in a high speed connection. I've been on a fast cable connection since early 1999, and I'd concluded that the monthly premium of a few dollars over a standard modem connection is well worth the price. Large downloads that take several minutes on a standard modem connection transfer in seconds on a fast connection. Typical page load time on this site is less than one second. Additionally, fast connections are usually always connected when your computer is on, eliminating the need to dial into your ISP each time you want to access the Internet. Efforts to include more technical information will continue. Many of the latest postings include more in-depth descriptions of techniques, parts, specifications, and details of vehicle performance. An e-mail link on the navigation bar (Feedback) provides all visitors with the ability to contact me with questions. I usually respond within hours, if not minutes. If I don't have the answer you are looking for, I'll refer your question to someone who has, or I'll let you know who to contact directly. I strongly recommend that anyone in the process or restoring a Corvair or modifying one join Internet e-mail discussion groups like Virtual Vairs (See the link in the Links section, under Clubs & Organizations), Fastvair, or V-8 Vair. V-8 fans should join the V-8 Registry (find details in the Extra! section). There was a suggestion that I list parts suppliers. The Corvair parts vendors have been listed on this site since its inception. They are found in the Links section, under "Corvair Parts & Restorers." Others have suggested the site should provide schematic diagrams and other technical specifications or procedures for rebuilding engines, etc. While I do this when possible, the best source for this type of information is in books sold by the Corvair vendors. They sell shop manuals, assembly manuals and technical papers, as well as specialized information on Crown and Kelmark conversions, speed and custom parts, and parts for Yenko Stinger and Fitch Sprint variants of the Corvair, when they are available. Displaying all the information on all the Corvair parts and assemblies for all the series of Corvairs built over its ten year production run would take thousands of pages and much more web server space than is available to me at reasonable cost. Consider as well that if all the information were posted here for free consumption, it would hurt the Corvair vendors who are the lifeline of the Corvair hobby. I will, however, continue to expand the technical information specific to the cars featured on this site, and their related equipment or modifications. Again this survey period, some respondents suggested that the site be expanded to include attributes that are key features of other Corvair sites. These are good suggestions, and will be added if they enrich the Corvair-related Internet landscape. As an alternative to duplicating services that already exist elsewhere on the Web, I've provided links to those sites in the Links section. The Corvair Society of America (CORSA) has a very good "Classifieds" section. Ads are free to CORSA members, and only $10 for non-members. By adding a classified section to this site, revenue from classifieds at CORSA might be impacted. As a CORSA member, I'd prefer not to work against my own club. There was also a suggestion to add a "Q & A" section and a "Forum" feature to the site. Both those features are available on Dick Kaneshiro's Corvair Center. It seems pointless to duplicate Dick's efforts when he has done it so well. Those interested in more restoration features, custom Corvairs and engine or drive train swap projects will not be disappointed. There will be a continuing expansion of the number of available features in the Extra! section. I am also committed to following up on suggestions to include more coverage of certain years and models of Corvairs currently not adequately represented on these pages. Corvair Corsa is a performance-oriented site, focused primarily on cars or performance oriented trucks. Corvairs of all persuasions will be included, from early station wagons to dune buggies, but the main thrust of the site will continue to be the cars. A wide variety of Corvairs, including trucks, is found in the event coverage features or in Owners' Features in the Extra! section of the site. Truck aficionados should know that Rad Davis has a terrific site called Forward Control Corvairs. A link is available in the Links section, under the heading, Other & Special Interest. You'll also find specialty sites in that section, such as "The Ultra Van," hosted by Ken Wildman, or "Ultra Van Tech Tips," hosted by Norm Helmkay. Anyone looking for a truly great Corvair resource book should purchase Tony Fiore's The Corvair Decade. It contains some beautiful color and black and white photos, a thorough history of the Corvair, and it includes specifications, year-to-year changes, and other useful information. It's available from the Corvair Society of America (CORSA) and from Clark's Corvair Parts. This site is always open to suggestions and welcomes opportunities to showcase its visitors' cars, from pure stock to radical custom. Survey responses indicate a growing interest in the early model Corvairs, particularly 1960-63 models. Requests have also been made for more '67 through '69 models. Photos of any series or model of Corvair are welcome, especially when pictures are interesting and well taken. If you'd like to see your Corvair on this site, feel free to contact me by using the Feedback link on the navigation bar below. Thanks again for your helpful and encouraging input, and for your advice on the areas that need improvement. The Corvair is running strong in the 21st Century! Regards, |
