Rick Norris Crown Corv-8
Triple Threat at the V-8 Registry table Banquet night finally arrived, and thanks to an invitation from Rick and his wife, Jan, I found myself seated at the V-8 Registry table. After a terrific meal, the Corvair Society started handing out awards, and as the evening progressed, the hardware piled up on our table. Three Registry 'vairs, Ken Arnold's '63 Rampside, Ted Fahrentholt's '65 Corvitis, and yes, Rick's Corv-8 all won gold and were elevated to Senior Division. The Corv-8 scored 95.68 points! |

Considering that the Concours judges had to automatically deduct .50 points because the Corv-8 was transported to the event on a trailer, this is really a 96+ point car. Note: Ken's Rampside and Ted's custom Corsa are also featured on this website. You'll find them in the Extra! section with Ken's '63 appearing in a stand alone feature, and Ted's '65 included in the feature on Corvair Atlanta's Springfest '99 event. If you haven't already seen them, treat yourself. |
Buffalo Springfield once sang, "Something's happenin' here!" My thoughts exactly, as I stared through the viewfinder at the lower rear of the Corv-8, captured on its trailer behind the host hotel, ready for the trip back home to West Virginia. |

The right rig Because of the weight distribution of a conventional rear engine Corvair, the car is usually towed facing rearward. This is not the case with the mid-engine Corv-8. Rick's dual axle trailer is ideally suited for the long haul. It is even equipped with a deflector to protect the car's frontal area from bugs and debris. The tow vehicle is a Dodge RAM. |
