Rick Norris Crown Corv-8

The Monza's original dash pad was in poor condition, with a couple of major cracks in vinyl covering. Rick replaced the original blue cover with a 1967 pad in black to match the new interior color scheme. Later, we'll see his new reproduction door panels from Clark's and some finished interior views.

Original and replacement dash pads

Rick's plans include a premium sound system with a rear mounted 10-inch MB Quart sub-woofer. In the photo at right with the backlite removed, we see the sub-woofer enclosure lined with Dynamat sound mat. The two aluminum covered areas at the sides of the enclosure provide passage for the intake air hoses from the  Corvair air plenum located between the backlite and the rear deck lid. This arrangement, seen in the next photo, will provide lots of clean, high level air for the heavy breathing 350.

Sub woofer enclosure

Air suspension sub-woofers are considered superior to ported drivers for their tight, clean bass response, and they require an air-tight enclosure. The transducer should work as designed in the sealed, 3/4" cavity provided. Heavily laced with retaining screws, and with all joints sealed, the enclosure will provide rigid mounting of the woofer and freedom from unwanted vibrations. Hey Rick, how about Highway Star or Speed King by Deep Purple?
