Rick Norris Crown Corv-8
With most of the chassis and powertrain work completed, Rick spent a few weekends making adjustments including a 4-wheel alignment, and some judicious tweaking of the ignition and fuel injection systems. As previously noted, his 350 small-block can be tuned using a laptop computer, and getting it "dialed in" involved not only road testing, but a few runs on a chassis dynamometer. |
At right, the Corv-8 is strapped to a Dynojet chassis dyno to measure torque and horsepower under full throttle acceleration to 5800 RPM. Elapsed acceleration time was measured with the car in high gear, with the clock starting at 2600 RPM (44 MPH) and stopping at 5800 (98.3 MPH). The best run of the day yielded maximum torque and horsepower ratings of 296.5 ft-lb and 252.8 hp, SAE Net. |

The graph shows plots the nice flat torque curve of the fuel injected small-block Chevy and indicated peak horsepower at between 4900 and 5000 RPM. Gear changes at 5000 RPM drop the engine speed into a range delivering 275 ft-lb of torque! |
