Rick Norris Crown Corv-8

Many of the images used in this feature are large and that may cause some frustration for surfers with slow connections. However, I thought it was important to provide you with as much detail as I could and the large images make that possible.

The quality of the work on this car is outstanding, and I believe, deserves a really close look!

Sometimes, the little things make quite a difference in the maintenance of a hot rod. Note the small brass fitting on the left coolant pipe. It's a manual air bleed.

The other coolant pipe is fitted with a thermostatic switch for the cooling fan.

Rick doesn't use water in the cooling system. He uses non-aqueous propylene glycol with a boiling point of over 300 degrees Fahrenheit!

Air bleed and thermostatic switch detail

This picture shows the interior floor on the Monza, where the coolant pipes descend from the firewall and enter the access tunnel to the rear of the car. This was done somewhat differently than the Crown recommended procedure.

Later in the feature, we'll take a wider view of this area so you can see how Rick modified the original clutch pedal cross shaft. We'll also have a look at how he covered the coolant tubes to restore the original profile of the front floor area.

Coolant tubes entering tunnel

This shot was taken through a mirror. The blue silicone hose is coolant conduit. You can see the coolant pipes behind the tunnel pan which also houses the electrical wiring in split loom, and the shifter tube.

The red cable is the accelerator cable. Rick used a B&M shift cable designed for use with an automatic transmission. Just so we don't confuse you, the trans-axle used in the car is a 4-speed manual.

Also visible is this picture is the emergency brake rod and cables, the latter of which extend to each of the rear drum brake backing plates.
