Rick Norris Crown Corv-8

Let's take a close look at Rick's handiwork in what formerly was the trunk area. This shot shows the now completely enclosed radiator, fan and air box. The area behind the radiator and fan serves to exhaust hot air under the Corvair through an opening in the trunk floor. This design is the best I've seen, in that it not only effectively deals with the issue of correct air handling for the radiator, it also seals the trunk area from any intrusion of rust generating water.

Another aspect of the design that reflects the extensive thought and planning put into it, is the accessibility of all components. Maintenance was obviously a consideration. Air box covers can be removed by turning out a few screws.

In the foreground we can see how Rick has mounted a coolant recovery tank and routed the overflow tubing. Slightly to left of center, the brake line is visible, running to an AN fitting where it enters the wheel well area to the front disc brake on the passenger side. At left is the Corvair windshield washer jug. In the center of the photograph the radiator inlet and outlet tubes connect to the firewall. On the far side are the master cylinder for the clutch and the power booster and dual master cylinder for the brake system.

Now, let's go around the car and have a look from the other side.
