Doug Englin's 1962 Monza station wagon

The Englin Monza wagon is a rare Corvair. Only 2,362 of its kind were built in the U.S., and in Canada, only 205 '62 Monza wagons were constructed at the Oshawa, Ontario, plant.

The following picture shows a couple of features unique to the Corvair wagons. The roof is a full 2 inches higher than the sedan's. The rear door side windows are rectangular, whereas the sedan's had tapered rear edges, made to follow the sedan's roofline.

Unlike early Monza coupes, sedans and convertibles, which used no belt line trim, Doug reports that all '62 Corvair wagons used the shortened belt line moldings that wrapped around the front of the car and stopped just past the middle of the front doors. In contrast, the '61 Lakewood 700 wagon used a full body molding and the 500 series had no belt line trim.

Trim exclusive to the Monza included full rocker panel moldings, Monza emblems on the front fenders and on the glove box door.

The interior is all new, with all the parts from Clarks Corvair Parts in Shelburne Falls, MA. Doug credits Clark's for doing "outstanding reproductions!"

The Monza trim level was the best you could get in the '62 Corvair, and included pile carpets, deluxe door panels with arm rests (optional on 700 and 500 series Corvairs),  and a horn ring on the steering wheel. A bench seat was standard equipment, while the vinyl covered bucket seats were optional.

The photo at right was taken before the installation of the optional clock or tissue dispenser. The clock mounts to the dash top, the dispenser, under the glove box. Seat belts also were optional items in 1962.
