D.A.C.C. Corvair Homecoming
As the noon hour approached, I was delighted to find a few new cars rolling into the parking lot. This bronze '66 Corsa caught my eye. It was equipped with a 140 horsepower, 4 carburetor engine and a 4-speed stick. In the bright, noon day sun, it was difficult to set the correct exposure, but the shot turned out not too badly. |
It was time to reload the camera and grab some lunch at Bennigan's, right next door. After a cold beer, and a neat good-guy, bad-guy, crime story from the friendly waiter, who was also an Emergency Measures Organization worker studying to be a cop, we chowed down and got ready to peruse the Corvairs yet to be ogled and photographed. |
In from Ohio, here's Dan Tyrnski's pristine '63 Corvair 95 Rampside. The Corvair 95 was so-named because it was built on a 95 inch wheelbase, unlike the cars, which had a 108 inch wheelbase. These "forward control" mini-trucks were among the first of their type, sharing the credit with the hippie-mobiles of the 60s, the Volkswagen vans, buses and pick-ups. And most people credit Chrysler for the first mini-van! |
