1965 Corvair brochure photos

The photo below provided Chevrolet with a clever way to quickly demonstrate Corvair's unitized body by Fisher. The brochure read, "Corvair engineers are constantly developing new ways to improve the quality and function of Corvair's body, chassis and power train, and this year the list runs long and deep."

The list included the complete restyling of the body, the first time use of inner skirts at all wheel openings and flush and dry rocker panels for "greater corrosion protection." It goes on to speak of the relocated engine compartment air intake behind the rear window, improved engine compartment sealing, and easier to operate doors with new fork-type locks. Horns were mounted and protected behind the headlights.

"For convertible buffs," it continued, "a new method of attachment for the top dust boot and the availability of a new all-electric operating mechanism for the top."

Power train improvements for 1965 included the availability of four engines in 11 power team combinations, an improved shift linkage and quieter and more durable clutch linkage for 3- and 4-speed transmissions.

There was also "a new 44-ampere-hour battery; a highly efficient oil-wetted paper air cleaner element; a new differential assembly; double universal-jointed axle shafts and a new universal joint clamp for more uniform transfer of engine torque."

It went on to describe new chassis features "headed up by an articulating-link rear suspension system that assures nearly vertical wheel movement." The Corvair's new, "more nimble than ever" handling and "improved stability" was explained as being "due to modifications in the front suspension, softer front springs and wide-stance front and rear tread."

Other items mentioned were quicker steering with a shorter turning radius and a new front wheel speedometer drive offering greater accuracy.
