Corvairs at Blackhawk 2001
Back in the pit area, we spotted Yenko Stinger YS#107, owned by Ed Cunneen of Lombard, Illinois. According to the original Yenko Sportscars invoice on the quarter window, the car left the Corvair assembly line as a 1967 Monza bearing vehicle identification number (VIN) 105377W120124, after which it was shipped to its "final assembly point," in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, then home of Yenko Sportscars, Inc. The Stage I car was priced at $3,731.40, with the total consisting of: Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (Including Federal Excise Tax & Suggested Dealer Delivery & Handling Charge) $3,450, plus $181.40 in "Factory Installed Options And Accessories," and a $100.00 "Destination Charge." |

In the background above and in close-up below is YS#108, another '67 Stinger owned by Bob Dunahugh of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Pictures can sometimes be kind to cars, but in this case what you see is what you get; near perfection! |
Blackhawk was a blast! The Corvair racers were still hard at it as my friend Warren and I hit the highway, headed for the Corvair Society of America's International Convention in St. Charles, IL. A couple of hours later, we'd book into the convention hotel and join the thousand or so Corvair enthusiasts gathered there to enjoy a rich schedule of activities including a Concours d'Elegance, People's Choice Car Show, autocross racing, parts swapping, Society and special group meetings and, of course, hundreds of Corvairs. © 2001 www.corvaircorsa.com |
