Corvairs at Blackhawk 2001
With time trials getting underway we moved closer to the track just in time to see Virginia's Chuck Sadek come screaming out of a cloud of smoke in Turn 3D in his Yenko Stinger YS#073. Was he crop dusting, fogging for mosquitoes, or was he developing a problem? It looked serious enough, but it wasn't slowing him down at all! |
A few minutes later, Chuck attended to a failed valve cover gasket and got down to some serious racing. At right, he speeds by with emissions totally under control. This is one glued-to-the-road Stinger and it was a pleasure to watch it blister the asphalt. |
Below, a familiar site to regular site visitors; Chuck Armer's Darth Vair. Chuck's '65 Corsa was the subject of the first "Owners' Feature" in the Extra! section of this site. Other photos appear on the site, including some taken at Corvair Atlanta's Springfest '99 in Helen, Georgia, and at Speedweek 2000 in Daytona Beach, where the car won gold and was elevated by CORSA to Senior Division status. |
You have to admire a Corvair enthusiast who'll take a show-quality car out on the track and stand on it. Chuck is fully involved in the hobby from restoration to racing, and is a member of Corvair Atlanta, CORSA, and Virtual Vairs (the on-line Corvair discussion group), where he is known for his good-natured wisecracks and one-liners. Chuck and his wife Liz traveled to Blackhawk from Chamblee, Georgia. |
