Darth's sister, Madeira

Madeira

Chuck's other Corvair has a name, too. He calls her Madeira, after her paint code, (Chevy code N, Madeira Maroon). Madeira was restored by Chuck's friend Tony Kruzich, who helped with the restoration of Darth Vair as well.

The Monza convertible had only 2,700 original miles on the odometer!

In other sections of this site, I've mentioned that the '65 Corvair's trim was unique among the 5 years of late models. The Monza front fender emblem below is different from the emblem used in '66 through '69. An example of that emblem appears in the Monza section.

So what is Chuck's advice to anyone undertaking a complete restoration?

"Stages of any restoration seem like they will never end, and you can easily become frustrated and fatigued. It is extremely important to get away from the project when this happens. You have to regroup to avoid either mistakes or the temptation to try shortcuts. It may be as simple as going for a coffee, but the break must be made. I found that shifting to smaller projects really helped me because I was able to finish them, and this gave me a sense of accomplishment."

I think you'll agree with me that Chuck is deserving of that sense of accomplishment.

Both Darth Vair and Madeira are Corvairs any of us would be very happy to own and drive.

What's next, Chuck, a 4-door hardtop to round out the stable?
