Daytona 2000 - Corvair Speedweek

A helmeted Tony Fiore is seen at right, staging for a run in the autocross. His 110 Monza is equipped with non-stock dual exhaust and 14" American Racing wheels, which placed the car in Improved Stock class.

Tony, who is approaching his 90th birthday, was honored at the awards banquet for being the oldest guy on the track, which proves you're never too old to rock 'n roll! Way to go, Tony!

Corvair-powered Porsche

When you spot Jim Vicker's 1973 Porsche 914, it's easy to miss the Corvair connection, unless you hear it run. A highly modified 250+ hp Corvair turbo engine motivates the 2050 lb. sports car through a Porsche 901 magnesium case 5-speed transaxle with tall, close-ratio 3rd, 4th and 5th gears. The car features a front mounted oil cooler and filter, modified suspension and brakes, NOS Porsche steel GT flares and fiberglass 916 style bumper covers.

Jim describes the car as "extremely fast and sure footed, due to the Corvair engine being mid-mounted."
