Daytona 2000 - Corvair Speedweek

After tech inspection was over, I grabbed my camera and toured the pit area to shoot some pictures of the stock and competition-prepared autocross cars. I noticed the R N D L vanity plate on the '67 Monza sport coupe below; an obvious reference to the pattern of the Corvair Powerglide shift selector, which has no PARK position. Then, a few minutes later when I returned to a covered area of the pits to load up on Gatorade, the R N D L car backed in to get cover from the sun, and I met its owner, Brandon Mundell, his father, and a friend.

When I asked about the paint, which is considerably brighter than the 1967 factory yellow, Brandon told me it was Boyd Coddington Custom Hotrod Yellow.

Compare the two pictures below, and you'll notice in the lower picture that the car is equipped with the coveted full factory tinted glass. An option on Corvairs, tinted glass is difficult to find today at any price.

The Monza's wheels are period correct Cragar S/S mags with 20th Anniversary center caps, and are shod with P215/60R15 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. A 12-plate oil cooler helps keep the Monza cool.
