2001: A Corvair Odyssey
Black is black Allan Dollaway of the Detroit Area Corvair Club (DACC) is the owner of this superb Tuxedo Black '65 Corsa sport coupe with black interior. As a concession to the summer sun, the interior has cloth inserts in otherwise stock leather-grained vinyl seats. Factory options include a wood-grained sport steering wheel with telescopic column, Delco AM pushbutton radio, rear deck antenna, and tinted glass. The most important option of all is the RPO L87 180 horsepower turbo-charged engine, mated to a 4-speed manual transaxle with a 3.55:1 final drive ratio. |
Modular style chrome plated steel wheels with tri-blade spinners mount BFGoodrich radial T/As measuring P215 60R 14 in front and P225 60R 14 at the rear. The wheel arch moldings, which are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain, are correct for the year. Allan has either chosen to remove the rocker panel trim or he hasn't mounted it yet. |
It's tough to beat the visual impact of the late model Corvair coupe's profile, especially with the greenhouse wide open. I can imagine cruising Detroit's Woodward Avenue on a warm Saturday night in the mid-60s, listening to The Isley Brothers or the Temptations on Keener Radio, WKNR or The Big 8, CKLW, booming across the river from Canada. |
